"Seeds of Violence: The Autobiography of a Subversive" was featured at the 2007 and 2009 London Book Fair at Earls Court amongst over 375 titles from over 250 publishers worldwide. The Tehachapi Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has named a gift to the National Educational Foundation in honor of Dr. Mitchell, "In appreciation of your significant contributions to the mission of the AAUW Educational Foundation: advancing education and equity for women and girls." The names of honored recipients are inscribed in a book at the National Headquarters of AAUW. In Volume 13, number 2, of the Midwest Book review, the "Children's Bookwatch" section features a review of the Huckenpuck Papers. In the review, the article says that the tale is "superbly written" , "unique", and a "very highly recommended addition for school and community library collections". The Association of California Symphony Orchestras presented Dr. Mitchell with the 2003 Volunteer of the Year Award "In recognition of extraordinary commitment and exceptional performance." Dr. Mitchell is a member of the Tehachapi Community Orchestra Foundation Board and is the chief fundraiser for the Foundation. The Orchestra presents all its concerts free to the public, so all operating expenses are paid for by donations and small grants. Dr. B.J. "in the spotlight" !
